Had a fun discussion with colleagues today about AI coding tools, and we realized they behave eerily like the #Venom symbiote.

AI Tool: I see 17 related issues. I can fix them all. Let me help.

Me: Hesitating… and adding more prompts.

AI Tool: Very convincingly telling you that we are stronger together.

You give in and, bang, the next thing you know:

  • Your lint warnings are gone
  • Half the codebase has been “supposedly improved”
  • Architecture has opinions now
  • And… you’re not entirely sure who’s in control anymore

Do not get me wrong, the ability to do this is extremely helpful, and it does make you faster. However, it also acts in a “symbiote” way: wanting to help, exhibiting some aggressiveness, and always thinking it knows better.

The real challenge, as I see it, is knowing when to say:

“Thank you… but maybe later.”

Because if you don’t, it may just refactor the entire repository for you.
